Default Work around the paid programs.

So you know how IDA, Maya, and Google SketchUp costs money, and joining the Wario World forums costs about $10,000 and a steady income? Okay, maybe not the last one, but you know. Stuff.

How do you work around any "paid" programs that run into your way of hacking?

To work around free alternatives, I usually find free alternatives, or ask a friend to do stuff for me because they usually have what I need. But if that fails, I just don't do it and remove what I was trying to do. But, I don't do stuff i know I can't do. For Example Graphics.

IDA is IDA. There's nothing better or really even close. Hopper Disassembler is trying to compete, but it's certainly not there yet.

but the problem is, $600? I don't have that money…maybe a professional, but for a hobbyist like me (and maybe all other people on this website) it's really not the best deal.

And what is the deal with the disassemblers? They're like $3000…

i'll give you a hint: everyone in this community using IDA is using a copy that was licensed to eset. if that's not for you, hopper is up-and-coming, but not an IDA competitor yet. it's also a ton cheaper.

disassemblers are extremely useful. they're used in security research, malware research, what we do, etc.

e: http://www.hopperapp.com/

it's pretty nice. it can even connect to desmume via gdb just like IDA can.

I'm going to close this thread before we get anymore in depth on this subject, which can get touchy. If you want a good debugger that is cheap, but only for gba development, I would suggest NO$GBA Debugger version. Some of the more expensive debuggers you are talking about here, you obviously know how people aquired them if they don't have the money to pay, so there.
